Done back in Fall 2004 for my props when I cosplayed as Itachi for Halloween and MegaCon 2005. This was the first time I ever worked with resin and after much in the way of research and about $130 later, these are the results. I figured I'd share my experience, because it really was a fun and entertaining attempt.

Sadly, you can now find plastic/resin kunai at conventions for about $10. But this thing, it's SOLID. Not sharp, but SOLID...I'm sure with enough force you could stab someone, heh. But this is a good tutorial for any kind of item you want to make a resin copy of. I'd do it again.

where did you get your resin from?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I got mine from a local hobby store (Colonial Photo & Hobby in Orlando, FL). You can check craft and hobby stores to see if they carry it or can order it for you. The brand I used was Alumilite, and their website has ordering/retail info, www.alumilite.com/ Hope this helps!

How long does it generally take for the resin to set?

Depends on the resin you're using. Mine was a quick-set resin, it started to harden in less than a minute and was completely hard in 7. I let it sit for half an hour, though, just to be safe. The compound bottles will generally give you an approximate cure time.
